“For as long as I can remember, I have always been mixing paints. My first memory is of my mother dyeing yarn for the loom.”
Colour was the first language Tilemachos Kyriazatis ever knew — before form, before subject, before everything else. It is fitting, then, that his new figurative works speak most powerfully through colour: flat, saturated, luminous, drawn from the visual tradition of ancient Greek vase painting.
These works explore the nude figure as a bearer of symbols older than words. A bud before it opens. A bird that arrives carrying news. A hand reaching toward something unnamed. Each motif carries the weight of a civilisation that understood — long before the modern world — that the human body is not merely flesh but language, myth, and memory.
The mythology that lived inside the steel of his tankers has not disappeared. It has simply found a different vessel.
